Covid 19 Critical Care Wards

Over 10 years ago Ashford completed the commissioning of the New Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. The building which consists of two 17 storey towers and one 11 storey tower is one of the biggest in the south east and serves south east london and the surrounding areas. The building also houses the London Air Ambulance from the helipad on top of the central tower.

During the global COVID pandemic, Ashford were contracted by Wates & SES to carry out commissioning and water treatment of 2 floors that were never fitted out during the main construction works. The aim of these works was to give the Royal London an additional 170 beds across six critical care wards to aid in the fight against COVID-19. The works were carried out at an extremely fast pace, going from desktop study to completion in a little over 6 weeks. A project of this size and scale would normally have taken around 40 weeks.

With social distancing and 24 hour working in place, all trades worked together and garnering a positive can-do attitude the project went over as planned and on time. The effect to the hospital and on the local communitity will give it the legacy it truely deserves.

Commissioning Management Division

Following a number of recent successful management projects we have decided to expand the division. We believe that Commissioning Management has become too much of a paperwork shuffling exercise rather than what it should be. Ashford believe in the pro-active stance of engineering a solution with the contractors rather sending emails telling everyone there is an issue.
