The project undertaken by IHP projects, a joint venture between Sir Robert McAlpine & Vinci Construction would typically take over 10 years to deliver. The scheme with a construction value of £130m+ was completed in less than 4 years.
The scheme was delivered on time and within budget. Heavy involvement with the local community and key stakeholders throughout planning and development was critical to completion.
Innovation was at the heart of new model, reflected not only in the design (inclusion of barn theatres and generic outpatient’s units), but also by using IT to deliver a ground-breaking, digital hospital, and new working practices.
Ashford were employed by Norstead engineering to complete the water treatment and HVAC commissioning on the project and started on site in late 2017 conducting commissioning and water treatment based design reviews. Water treatment works started in early 2018 with works completing by the end of the same year. The chilled water and LTHW systems served the entire 23,000m2 development with over a 1000 terminal coils.
