The Ashford Cup 2008

On the evening of the April 17th, Ashford Environmental Services took on NG Bailey at Selhurst Park, the home of Crystal Palace Football Club. The fourth meeting of the two companies failed to live up to expectations as Ashford romped home 10-1. The current cup holders never really got out of the blocks as Ashford’s young guns racked up goal after goal. Baileys did manage a consolation goal late in the second half but this failed to lift their spirits. The onslaught continued and I think all were relieved to hear the final whistle.

The Boys at Crystal Palace Football Club

The whole Ashford team performed on the day but a couple of players stood out. Steve Harrison was deadly up front scoring 4 goals and Darren Claydon took one for the team during a sterling defensive performance. The other scorers were Niall Lawless, Richard Andrew, John Carter, Ashley Reynolds, John Turnbull and Alex Wall.

Despite talk of the contrary, veteran player/manager Tony Kennedy did make a cameo appearance, setting up a couple of goals. Later, whilst recovering in hospital, he was reported as saying, “I’ve still got it”. A fine evening’s entertainment was rounded off with a drinks/buffet reception in the players’ lounge. Our thanks go to Crystal Palace Football Club who were tremendous hosts especially allowing us to use the pitch before their season had finished!

Dazzy Dazzler

... And I thought Daz was supposed to keep your whites bright but not by the looks of that shiner!

Well done Dazzy!

By all accounts it was a fearless performance at the back!
